Last November, I was invited to chair an event at Waterstones in Leeds - An Evening of Gothic Mystery with Laura Purcell and Stuart Turton. They were kind enough to sit down with me to record an episode of the podcast before the event, and this is it! It was very auspicious, because I was halfway through Laura’s first (very scary) book, The Silent Companions, when the email dropped into my inbox - very mysterious indeed. Laura is also the author of The Corset, a gothic chiller featuring a murderous seamstress and a woman who’s obsessed with phrenology - and which I finished in two days flat because it was so compelling. Stuart is the author of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, which he explains in the podcast better than I probably can, but which is absolutely one of the best books I read last year, and I think about it often.
